Nepenthes Ventricosa X Ampullaria Black Miracle
Nepenthes ventricosa x ampullaria ‘Black Miracle’
This stunning hybrid brings together the best of both worlds — the elegant curves of *N. ventricosa* and the squat, ground-hugging charm of *N. ampullaria ‘Black Miracle’*. The result is a plant that’s both striking and easy to love.
What you get: a plant that is between 3"- 6" large, in a 3.3" wide, 4.3" tall pot. The substrate is a mix of New Zealand Besgrow Spagmoss sphagnum moss, Perlite, and Orchiata Pine bark.
Pitchers:
The pitchers are a real showstopper — dark red, with a bold maroon, cream and green striped peristome that gives them an exotic, mysterious look. Their rounded, barrel-like shape comes from their *ampullaria* heritage.
Foliage:
Leaves are typically a fresh, lime green, kissed with maroon or dark red speckles.
Growth & Habit:
This hybrid grows fast and adapts beautifully to indoor conditions. It’s an intermediate tropical pitcher plant that enjoys warmth and humidity. You’ll see it producing pitchers at the end of the leafs slender tendrils. Perfect for southern facing windows and/or under growlights. Hanging baskets are preferred so it's pitchers can form and colors can shine.
Care Tips:
* 💡 Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Filtered sunlight, LED growlights, fluorescent lighting keeps it happy and colorful. About 12 hours per day. If there is too much light, the leaves will make brown burn spots. In that case move it further from the light source. If it has lush leaves but no pitchers, then you need more light for it to produce pitchers. They may take a month + to acclimate to your house.
* 💧 Water: Use only pure water (distilled, RO, or rainwater). Keep the soil moist, never sopping, and avoid letting the pot sit in water for long periods. Don't let it dry out.
* 🌡️ Humidity & Temp: Loves warmth (65–80°F) and humidity above 50%.
* 🌱 Soil: Nutrient-poor, airy mix works best — sphagnum moss and perlite with a touch of orchid bark. We use Besgrow Spagmoss, Chunky perlite, and Orchiata Pine Bark.
* 🐜 Feeding: We have had success with using freeze dried bloodworms and Osmocott slow release pellets. We don't feed all of the pitchers at once so we can enjoy them longer.
