Nepenthes x St. Gaya

A vibrant and easygoing carnivorous hybrid, Nepenthes x St. Gaya is the result of crossing N. khasiana with a hybrid of N. ventricosa × N. maxima. Beloved for its colorful pitchers and manageable size, this plant is a fantastic choice for both beginners and seasoned growers.

Highlights & Care Tips:

Pitcher Characteristics:

St. Gaya produces eye-catching pitchers in shades of yellow-green with bold red or orange hues. Many exhibit speckles or subtle striping, and the wide, oval-shaped openings make them particularly efficient at capturing prey.

Growth Habit:

Compact and vigorous. Its manageable size and hardy nature make it ideal for small spaces or windowsill displays.

Light Requirements:

Provide bright, indirect light to encourage pitcher production and healthy growth. Direct sunlight may scorch the foliage, so filtered light or a bright room is ideal.

Humidity Needs:

Like most Nepenthes, St. Gaya thrives in high humidity—aim for levels above 50%. A nearby humidifier or pebble tray with water can help maintain the right environment.

Watering:

Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Always use rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis water—avoid tap water, as it may contain minerals that can damage the plant over time.

Temperature Range:

This tropical hybrid prefers daytime temperatures above 70°F, with nighttime lows between 55–70°F. Protect it from cold drafts and frost exposure.
