Drosera Intermedia Sundew (oblong leaved sundew) Carnivorous Plant

Drosera intermedia otherwise known as the Oblong-leaved Sundew or Water Sundew.

They will go through a dormancy period where they produce a hibernacula. The outer leave will die off leaving tightly packed leaves.

They will make small white flowers in the summer months (June- August). They can produce many seeds! I have described their spread as a "carpet of sundew".

These sundew can be found in Europe, Eastern North America, the northern area of South America and Cuba.

Adult in 5" pot picture for example only, plant purchased comes in a 3" pot with water tray.

Your plant resides within a 3" pot with a velvety layer of either New Zealand Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss or a silky peat/perlite/sand mixture in water tray with care tag. You may also receive stickers and other possibly shameless self promotional materials.

Height
2" - 5"

Zones
4-9

Light
Full sun, minimum of 6-10 hours of direct sunlight outdoors. Indoors under lights you'll need 10-12 hours of light. If on a windowsill, East-facing in the summer, South-facing in the winter. Would benefit from supplemental lights when on a windowsill.

Water
Sit in 1 inch of water using a plastic or fully sealed ceramic dish. Use distilled, reverse osmosis or rain water. These are also known as the 'water sundew' and can tolerate being fully submerged for short periods of time.

Soil
General carnivorous plant soil mix will do but prefer a more sandy mix.
1 part peat, 2 parts perlite, 1 part sand.

Temperature
Try to keep between 40°- 95°F
They can tolerate a short freezes.
Ours have even gone down to 17°F and survived.

Dormancy
Intermedia leaves will die off in the late fall and form a hibernaculum for the winter. It looks like a small, green crown. In the spring the leaves will unfurl again.

Notes
1/4 strength maxsea fertilizer can be used as a foliar spray.
You can also feed any indoor plants bloodworms or other insects.
When outdoors they can feed themselves.
